They present an opportunity to initiate discussion on urban planning and the challenges of sustainable urban development by welcoming participants to experience and witness successful planning tools and urban interventions.
An inaugural urban walk was held on Sunday, 15 May 2016, at the Lower East Side, with a special focus on Housing and Public Spaces: Historic New York City Neighborhood in Transition. This tour showcased affordable housing policy tools and models successfully appropriated by the community, which has helped to preserve and created affordable housing in the Lower East Side and has also contributed to fighting land speculation and gentrification.
