WIEGO - Women In Informal Employment: Globalizing And Organizing WIEGO perJuana Corman is General Secretary of the Union of Newspaper, Magazine and Lottery Vendors of the district San Juan de Lurigancho, the largest district in population in PerÚ, located in Lima. The Union is affiliated to the National Federation of Newspaper, Magazine, and Lottery Vendors of Peru (FENVENDRELP, for the acronym in Spanish). Ms. Corman has been the Federation Delegate to the Board of the Caja de Protecci¨®n del Canillita (a health fund and health services facilities created in the 1940¡¯s with National Budget to protect ¡°canillitas¡±, how newspaper vendors are known in Peru). As such, she has tirelessly fought for recuperating management of the Caja from the hands of private interests that have captured it and are not providing health services to the canillitas, for which it was created. This struggle has included a judicial case, and countless meetings with Parlamentarians, Ministry officers, Ombudsman office, etc. Juana is participating in the process that promotes specific City Ordinances for canillitas in Metropolitan Lima and in her district, San Juan de Lurigancho.
