Fatimetou Abdel Malick

Fatimetou Mint Abdel Malick is Mayor of Tevrah-Zeina in Mauritania and former President of Network of Local Elected Women of Africa (REFELA), an active part of the UCLG Standing Committee on Gender Equality. She is Mauritania’s first woman mayor, making her a pioneer in her country and a role model for African women. Now in her third term, Abdel Malick has prioritized increasing access to basic services, improving education, and creating public spaces such as playgrounds and municipal parks with free Wi-Fi for young people.
