Preparing for the Great Metropolitanization

While the world is rapidly urbanizing, it also rapidly metropolitanizing. In the 40 years from 1975 to 2015, the number of metropolitan areas with over 500,000 inhabitants more than doubled, jumping from 491 to 1,039. By 2030, it is estimated that 2.7 billion or 55 percent of urban dwellers will live in these large metropolitan areas.
