Specialist For Human Settlements South Africa Local Government AssociationAlison served on CEGAA’s Board of Trustees since its founding, resigning in 2012 to join us as Chief Operating Officer. Her role focuses on strategic planning and oversight of our organisational systems and processes, and financial forecasting and sustainability. Alison has senior management experience at provincial level: from 2006 to 2008, she headed the budget office at the Western Cape Provincial Treasury, and thereafter was Director of Policy, Research and Information Management at the Western Cape Department of Local Government and Housing. She then became an independent consultant, specialising in policy research and development for urbanisation and human settlement. Prior to joining government, Alison spent four years at IDASA where she established the AIDS Budget Unit, which undertook research and capacity-building activities on budgeting for government's response to HIV/AIDS. Alison has a Master's Degree in Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 2000, having earned her Bachelor's degree in Political Science (cum laude) and Religious Studies from Brown University in Rhode Island, USA, in 1994. Her areas of interest include human settlement policies and programmes, inter-governmental finance, and analysis of HIV/AIDS public expenditure.
