Head Of Urban Strategies And Planning IHS Erasmus University Rotterdam NetherlandsDr. Alexander Jachnow has dedicated the last 18 years of his professional life to urban development, specializing in capacity building, urban governance and management. The main focus of his work lies on enhancing institutions and human resources through governance reforms and capacity development. By improving urban management and policies, his work intends to contribute to better urban development and an equitable access to the city. Alexander is Head of Urban Strategies and Planning (USP) at the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS) in Rotterdam. He worked as team leader, adviser and project manager for numerous European and international projects. Previous to joining the IHS, he was worked as project director in South Asia in Urban Governance Programmes with GIZ, KfW, World Bank and the ADB. In Latin America he was engaged in housing programmes in Mexico and in Favela upgrading in Brazil. He is a graduate in architecture from Berlin TU and holds a specialization in housing studies from the UNAM/Mexico City. He completed his PhD on the influence of civil society in urban development and housing.
