UN-Habitat's Urban Planning and Design Lab has been assisting governments in over 40 cities in the last 3 years. The Urban Lab has a strong focus on implementation and assist cities in the definition, design and coordination of urban plans and processes through participatory processes. Some key outputs have been the Spatial Development Framework of Johannesburg, Urban Planning Guidelines for the Union of Myanmar and implemented Planned City Extensions in Somalia. At this event results of a selection of Urban Labs across all continents will be showcased and a discussion on scaling up the Urban Labs program will take place with global partners. At the event the publication “Urban Labs; a tool for integrated and participatory urban planning” will be launched. This publication provides the normative methodology and guidelines for cities to set up their own Urban Lab as way to accelerate implementation of the New Urban Agenda.
