The City Resilience Index: A new way to champion resilience in cities
Networking Events Venue: R7- ARUP.
Resilience is now recognised as a critical agenda for the future (SDG: 2015) –one that promotes stronger cities capable of surviving and thriving under 21st century challenges. The Rockefeller Foundation and Arup identified the need to make resilience tangible, practical and globally applicable to cities. To address this need, Arup has developed the City Resilience Index (CRI) with support from the Rockefeller Foundation. The CRI is a pioneering tool for cities to understand and assess their resilience comprehensively. Based on three years of research, it aims to help policymakers and stakeholders understand and tackle urban challenges in a systematic way. It incorporates a framework that many cities have already used to create resilience strategies. In the current phase of development, we aim to enable cities to use the City Resilience Index (CRI) through direct engagement, technical support and guiding materials. The networking event will give an overview of the development of the City Resilience Index. Attendees will interact with the lead researchers and strategists behind the tool, and those currently using it in cities. This will also provide an opportunity to share and exchange ideas on operationalising and measuring resilience.
