Quito Media Center

During the Habitat III Conference held in Quito, Ecuador, 17–20 October 2016, the Quito Media Center was located centrally within the conference venue in close proximity to the plenaries and mains sessions and managed by the Habitat III Secretariat.

The media center was a big, open working space for use by accredited media. It was equipped with printers, internet connection, and video screens through which the press could watch main sessions that were being livecast by UN TV, though there was also pre-allocated space for media in venues where the plenaries, assemblies, and high-level main sessions were held.

Media interested in covering Habitat III had to have been registered online and submitted required documents by the first week of October. These documents were the following:

  1. A copy of their passport/national ID card;

  2. A copy of a valid press card/work pass; OR a letter on headed paper from their media organization outlining their role/function, signed by the Editor in Chief or Publisher

  3. (For freelance journalists only): In addition to items 1 and 2 above, two (2) samples of published work from the last 12 months

Accredited media were issued a media badge for the conference, allowing them access to certain high-level sessions where regular participant badges were not admitted. Media registrants unable to provide the required documents could still attend the conference but were issued regular badges.

The media center was annexed by the press conference room where 31 press events organized by Habitat III and various partners were held. See media schedule below.

Interviews by the Habitat III Secretariat may be found here.

Videos of the opening ceremony, key note speeches, remarks, plenaries, press conferences, assemblies, high-level roundtables, and urban stage events during the conference were webcast live on UN Web TV and may still be found online on the following channels:
