The side event will present the development of the EU- funded initiative Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa aiming to increase the capacities of cities to provide access to sufficient, sustainable and safe energy to urban and peri-urban populations in the region. It will have a practical dimension by providing insights not only on the principles of the initiative but also on the process of developing Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plans (SEACAPs) for cities with real cases. The event will benefit from the participation of representatives from the initiative, the European Commission and African Local Authorities.
