The Brazilian Council of Architecture and Urbanism (CAU/BR) was created in 2010 to regulate the practice of Architecture and Urbanism in the country. CAU/BR's purpose is to "orient, discipline and supervise the practice of the profession of Architecture and Urbanism, ensure the faithful observance of the principles of ethics and discipline in the class thought the country, as well as strive for improving the practice of Architecture and Urbanism”. CAU/BR has been actively engaged in the debate which is taking place in Brazil about Habitat III, representing 140,000 registered architects and urban planners in the country, with representations in the 26 states and the Federal District. We are part of the council of cities and participated, with many other institutions, in the official document that Brazilian Government sent to Quito, but we also discussed a document from a professional point of view. Our thesis is that Brazilian cities grew in an unsustainable way in recent decades. In this scenario, CAU/BR advocates the need to build a pact for the city, which is based on fundamental pillars described in the “COMMITMENT LETTER FROM THE BRAZILIAN COUNCIL OF ARCHITECTURE AND URBANISM ON THE NEW URBAN AGENDA”.
